Male teacher bags maternity allowance

JHAPA: It has come to light that a male teacher secured salary under maternity leave meant for a female teacher in Jhapa.

Netra Prasad Paudel, a teacher at Gaurishankar Higher Secondary School withdrew the remuneration that Tilrupa Adhikary a female teacher of the same school was entitled to.

Tilrupa had stayed on leave for two months after she delivered a baby around seven months ago.

Tilrupa learned about the situation after she sought her remuneration and came to know that Lekhnath Katuwal, head teacher of the school, had given the amount to Paudel.

According to Education Directive, a female teacher can take leave of up to 60 days before or after delivery. Tilrupa complained that head teacher Katuwal had convened a meeting of the school management committee and decided to give Rs 12,000 to Paudel.

Katuwal, however, said that the school management committee had decided to provide Poudel with the remuneration as he had taken Tilrupa’s classes in her absence and the school was being run on private resources.

DEO Dilliram Luitel said that it was wrong to take the facility provided by the state to new mothers. He pledged to investigate the incident.JHAPA: It has come to light that a male teacher secured salary under maternity leave meant for a female teacher in Jhapa.
