Man arrested for thrashing wife

Rautahat, April 12

Rautahat police today arrested Sekh Seraj of Farhada VDC-7, Rajpur for his alleged involvement in meting out violence to his wife.

District Police Office said that Sekh was caught after a case was filed against him for thrashing his wife Sernaj Begam, driving her out of home and marrying a second wife.

Sernaj, 18, was four when she got married to Sekh some 14 years ago. When she protested Sekh’s plan to marry another girl, family members had beaten her black and blue last week and chased her away from the house.

Sekh then had tied the knot with the daughter of Sekh Makkhi of Mathiya VDC, the case filed at the police office reads.

Sernaj today registered a case at District Police Office seeking justice. She complained that the perpetrators had done a great injustice to her by bribing police at the local level and denying her justice.

Sekh refuted the allegation that he had married a second wife. He, however, admitted that he and his family had chased Sernaj away from the house. “I was married when I was small. I now love another girl.

That is why I cannot keep her at my house,” Sekh told police.

Woman right activist Kiran Thakur pledged to provide justice to Sernaj. Thakur added that Sernaj was helpless as all the villagers were supporting the perpetrator. “We shall work hard to give justice to Sernaj,” Thakur promised.

SP Ganesh Regmi said investigation was on. “Action will be taken if Sekh is found guilty,” SP Regmi said.
