ML 4.5 fresh earthquake shakes Sankhuwasabha

KATHMANDU: A light earthquake hit Sankhuwasabha district on Tuesday morning.

According to the National Semismological Centre (NSC), Launchaur, it recorded a tremor of local magnitude 4.5 at 8:45 am with its epicentre close to Mangtewa of the district.

The NSC said that it was not related to the devastating earthquake that jolted Nepal on April 25 and has been acknowledged as an independent earthquake.

The coordinates of the epicentre are 27.47°N, 87.15°E of the district.

Earlier on Sunday, a moderate tremor had jolted western and central Nepal, including Kathmandu Valley and adjoining districts.

The NSC had called the midnight tremor an aftershock of the April 25 earthquake having a local magnitude of 5.5, with its epicentre in Gorkha.
