More than 250 families displaced by landslides in Doti

DIPAYAL: As many as 250 families of Toleni and Daud VDCs of Doti district have been displaced after the villages developed fissures due to landslides triggered by a heavy rainfall.

Among the displaced, some are living in a jungle nearby the VDCs by constructing shanties while some are taking shelter at their relatives’ houses and some have shifted to other places.

According to Lal Bahadur Bogati, Secretary at the Daud VDC, three wards of Daud and four wards of Toleni of the district are at high risk of landslides.

He informed that more than 250 families had left the villages on Tuesday.

A team of security personnel had rescued 32 and 25 families from Daud and Toleni VDCs respectively and shifted to a safer place.

They have been shifted to schools, community buildings, VDC and government officers and safe houses of villagers, deployed police Inspector Bodh Raj Ojha informed.

The landslides of Monday night had killed six persons including five members of a single family and injured three persons.

Properties worth millions of rupees were destroyed in the landslides in two VDCs.

Three hydropower projects of two VDCs have also been damaged.

A suspension bridge that links both the VDCs has also sustained damages.

Crops cultivated in 100 of ropanis of land have also been destroyed.

The landslides have also obstructed roads in various parts of the VDCs.

The details of property destroyed in the disaster are yet come.
