Nawalparasi rape suspect made public

NAWALPARASI: Police on Friday nabbed and made public an alleged mastermind behind the gang rape of a 13-year-old minor, amid a press conference organised at Nawalpur Area Police Office.

Krishna Mahato, a permanent resident of Laukhanika-13 of Kawasoti had raped the minor on March 31 in Kawasoti of Nawalparasi district.

Under a special operation, SI Prakash Simkhada and Constable Dhan Bahadur Kandel in civvies caught Mahato from his relative's house at More of Biratnagar on Friday afternoon, according to DSP Parashu Ram Tiwari.

Two other absconding suspects are yet to be identified.

According to the respective law, anyone who rapes a minor will be sentenced to jail for 12 years and an additional punishment will be issued in case of a gang rape.

The family and relatives of the victim, locals, and many women activists had protested in the district demanding action against the culprit.
