Moderate aftershock rocks eastern Nepal, epicentre in Dolakha

KATHMANDU:  A moderate tremor rocked eastern Nepal on Tuesday evening.

The National Seismological Centre said that it recorded a tremor of local magnitude 4.4 in Dolakha district at around 8:25 pm.

The NSC listed it as an aftershock of the Nepal earthquake that struck Gorkha district on April 25 last  year.

The preliminary data showed that the aftershock originated from a location -- with coordinates 27.56°N, 86.17°E -- near Hanwa VDC, which lies southeast of Charikot, the district headquarters of Dolakha.

The aftershock was felt in neighbouring districts including Solukhumbu and Okhaldhunga, according to locals.

The NSC records show that 447 significant aftershocks, of local magnitude 4.0 or above, have followed the devastating ML 7.6 earthquake.
