Dhangadhi bank staffer held for ATM cash theft

DHANGADHI: A Nepal Investment Bank Limited staffer was arrested on Monday with Rs 2.3 million that he allegedly stole from the Bank’s ATM booth recently.

According to police, the arrestee has been identified as Govinda Upadhyaya, an assistant-level employee post at the bank’s Dhangadhi branch.

Superintendent of Police Arjun Chand of the Kailali District Police Office informed that all of the cash remaining in the cash compartment had gone missing from NIBL’s ATM on Friday.

Police have suspected that Upadhyaya took the cash out while the CCTV was not in operation from 6:01 to 6:06 pm that day.

Meanwhile, police confiscated Rs 2.2 million hidden in a haystack outside a house of Upadhyaya’s neighbour, Lila Joshi, and the remaining amount from under his pillow.

The bank took notice of the incident after a customer informed that the ATM was out of cash.

The bank’s CEO Jyoti Prakash Pandey and other officials had flown to Dhangadhi yesterday to probe the incident with the help of local police.

Police said the further information would be revealed once the investigation would be over.
