NC demands oppn status in Province 2

Janakpurdham, April 28

Nepali Congress obstructed the Province 2 assembly, demanding status of opposition party in Janakpurdham today.

NC provincial Parliamentary Party leader Ram Saroj Yadav argued that only his party was in the opposition as the CPN UML and the CPN-MC supported the coalition government of the Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal and Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal. He said they didn't have any option, but to halt the assembly business as Speaker Saroj Kumar Yadav was delaying decision on the issue.

“The opposition party in the province should be finalised according to the law of federal Parliament. The forces which support the government also have ruling status. Hence, Nepali Congress must be declared the opposition force,” said leader Yadav.

Speaker Yadav had issued a ruling to finalise the opposition party within five days in the second week of April. “However, the opposition party is yet to be finalised though two weeks have passed.

Earlier, the speaker had pledged take a decision on the issue yesterday,” said NC leaders.

Due to the obstruction of the assembly business, two bills related to the salary and perks of provincial assembly officials and members, and chief minister and ministers of the province, which the chief minister Lal Babu Raut was scheduled to present, remains stalled.

Likewise, the CPN-UML also has been claiming opposition status, arguing that it is the largest force outside the provincial government. The opposition party leader is given facilities on par with state minister.
