No alternative to development, says Prime Minister Oli

Surkhet, April 14

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today said the successful holding of all three levels of elections had paved the path for development and prosperity in the country.

In an address to the nation on the occasion of New Year-2075 from the banks of Rara Lake, Mugu, Oli said “We have problems before us and duty to resolve them,” Oli said.

“People have given us the mandate to address their problems and the government will work to fulfil its responsibility with sincerity and honesty,” Oli added.

Oli stated that country had entered an era of political stability with the implementation of the constitution following the successful holding of all three levels of elections. He noted that Nepal would be developed and should be developed at any cost.

Oli said feudalism had become a history. “Divisive forces have been sidelined and those trying to make the country dependent on others have been weakened,” said Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, adding “We shall keep nationality at the centre and maintain cordial and friendly ties with neighbouring countries, international community and others for prosperity and the development of the country.”

Oli stated that his government would launch ruthless crackdown on corruption. “The government shall draft necessary laws to eliminate corruption from the country,” he said, adding that no one involved in corruption would be spared.

Prime Minister KP Oli said the government had the responsibility of promoting Nepal from the status of least developed country by 2022 and meet 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

The prime minister said starting New Year from Karnali Province had a great significance. “We have come here to clarify where we stand and what our destination is,” Oli stated.

He argued that prosperity of country, including Karnali Province, would help materialise the slogan of ‘prosperous Nepal and happy Nepalis’.

Stating that his government’s top priority was to usher in economic development and prosperity, the prime minister said the government would join hands with foreign investors and financial institutions for economic development of the country.

“I urge foreign and domestic investors to invest in Nepal,” Oli said.

Stating that history had shown us how economic dependency on others puts nationality and national dignity at stake, the prime minister said, “Thus, the government is committed to making the country self-reliant through planned economic development, mutual collaboration and trade diversification,” he added.

Oli held that his government would put in all the efforts to reduce the dependency of people on agriculture  to 25 per cent within five years. “Agricultural productivity will be increased by four times,” Oli said.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli noted that agriculture’s contribution to national economy would be limited to 20 to 25 per cent.

Noting that tourism was a major foundation of development and prosperity, Oli said that his government would pay special attention to construct infrastructure, promote market, and protect tourist destinations.

He said the government would promote technical education and make education job-oriented.

Oli noted that his government would provide free health service to people below the poverty line, elderly citizens and children. “The government will work to discourage health education from becoming a lucrative business,” Oli said.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has appealed to the people of the country to take a pledge to build the country.

Oli said this while addressing a mass meeting in Simikot of Humla district today. According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the PM said Nepal should not always lag behind in terms of development and he would make efforts to develop the country.

“No matter how difficult a country’s geography is, all parts of it are equally important,” he added. The PM said that his government had accorded special priority to Karnali Province and he would leave no stone unturned to develop the province.

Stating that there was high possibility of promoting herbs in Karnali province, the PM said the government would provide monetary assistance to the province to process herbs. Prime Minister KP Oli  had  aerially inspected Chhayantha, Hilsa- Simikot Road, Hilsa border point of Mugu district and all seven local levels of Humla district.

Locals submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli demanding that the government make improvements in roads, agriculture and promote air connectivity with the places of those districts.
