NRNs help rebuild school in Tandrang

Gorkha, February 20

Bishwo Subedi of Tanahun, who resides in the United States of America, reached Siddha Kali Higher Secondary School in remote Tandrang of Gorkha to distribute relief materials soon after the devastating April 25 earthquake last year.

While distributing the relief, he advised the victim students to read sincerely. But he learnt that there their school building had collapsed in the earthquake. This broke Subedi’s heart and he decided to do something for the children of the remote country.

Soon after he returned to United States, he started collecting donations from Nepallis residing in Los Angeles, Texas, California among other cities.

Uttma Jung Thapa of Gorkha and Gauri Raj Joshi, Chairperson of Aama Foundation, also joined their hands with Subedi.

After they collected donations they entrusted Bhimad Youth Club of Tanahun with constructing the school building.

Club chairperson Narayan Lamsal and treasurer Ganesh Subedi in coordination with the school management committee constructed a five-room earthquake-resistant structure at the cost of Rs 2 million.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kharel handed over the building to the school management committee today.

“As the construction of the building was possible only because of hard earned money of the migrant workers, it is now the responsibility of the school management committee to run the school effectively,” said SSP Kharel.

Miss Nepal California 2015 Anusha Karki and popular singer Nima Rumba had also contributed for the project, according to the villagers.

School supervisor Krishna Sigdel, social activists Jagannath Subedi and Rolak Bahadur Thapa, Aama Foundation member Bijay Raj Joshi, school chairperson Saroj Amgain, principal Gokarna Prasad Amgain and Bhimad Youth Club chairperson Narayan Prasad Lamsal highlighted the importance of quality education for the kids of the region, during the function.
