One missing, nine seriously injured in Lamjung bus incident

KATHMANDU: One person is reportedly missing and 9 others have sustained serious injuries when a bus they were travelling on plunged into a river in Lamjung on Thursday.

The bus (Na 5 Kha 6395) heading to Beluwabesi of Kaski from Pokhara fell into the river when a bridge over Rudi RiverĀ  collapsed at around 1 pm today, according to Inspector Buddhi Sagar Puri at District Police Office, Lamjung.

The old and weak bridge had not been repaired for a long time and is the cause of the incident, locals said.

Eyewitnesses have reported that a male passenger was swept away by the swollen river. Another passenger who seems to have been trapped in the wreckage of the bus is yet to be rescued, informed Puri.

The incident occurred at Madhya Nepal Municipality-8 in Lamjung, the border between Lamjung and Kaski district.

Seriously injured nine passengers have been taken to Gandaki Regional Hospital Pokhara, said Puri, adding six others including the driver of the bus with minor injuries are receiving treatment at the nearby Ram Bazar Health Post.
