Opposition parties insist on amendment bill withdrawal

KATHMANDU: Claiming that the government failed to justify any meaning of the Constitution amendment bill, as many as nine opposition parties demanded that it be withdrawn.

Organising a press conference in Kathmandu today, the opposition leaders said the government instead should announce dates for the local polls as soon as possible in order to end the ongoing political stalemate.

The parties - CPN-UML, CPN-ML, Rastriya Janamorcha, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Nepal Pariwar Dal, Rastriya Janamukti Party, Bahujan Shakti Party, Nepa Rastriya Party and Madhes Samata Party - also claimed the amendment proposal was not only against Tarai-Madhes, but also against national interests.

They said the amendment bill was introduced at the Parliament to obstruct the Constitution implementation process.

The parties have been obstructing the House business since November 29 as the government registered the bill amid the opposition parties' protests and objections.

The parties said the withdrawal of the bill was a must to resume the Parliament meetings.
