PM to lead federalism implementation panel

Kathmandu, April 8

The government today formed two committees to implement federalism in the country.

The Cabinet formed a High-Level Federalism Implementation and Restructuring Directive Committee under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for necessary directions and coordination among mechanisms functioning on restructuring of the state.

According to government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communication Sherdhan Rai, the High-Level Committee has also been entrusted to devise necessary policies and rules to ensure effective implementation of the restructuring process as per the new constitution.

The 11-member panel includes DPM and Defence Minister Bhim Rawal, Minister for Finance Bishnu Paudel, Minister for Home Affairs Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Minister for Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Agni Prasad Kharel, Minister for General Administration Rekha Sharma and National Planning Commission Vice-Chairperson Yubaraj Khatiwada and its member secretary Suresh Man Shrestha as members. Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi is the member-secretary of the committee.

A nine-member Federalism Implementation and Administration Restructuring Committee has also been formed under the leadership of Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi, with secretaries of home, finance, defence, federal affairs and local development, law justice and parliamentary affairs and general administration ministries and office of the prime minister and council of ministers as members.
