Prepare for joint people’s movement: FA

Kathmandu, March 21

Federal Alliance has issued an appeal today urging the public to prepare for a decisive joint people’s movement.

Issuing a press release here today, the alliance said it would continue to fight for identity-based federalism no matter how difficult and how long the battle was.

It has urged the public to support the joint people’s movement in order to create a storm of protest both on the street and in the Parliament.

The alliance also said that the first amendment made to the constitution recently was the major parties’ ploy to mislead the public. “This amendment has retained the same old provisions albeit indirectly,” the alliance said in its appeal.

It said that the first amendment to the constitution addressed none of the vital issues related to identity-based federalism, autonomous provinces, and multi-language policy, Upper House of the Parliament, federal judiciary, local bodies and multi-nationalities.

The alliance has also criticised the government for failing to solve the problem of shortage of cooking gas in the market. The alliance said the prime minister was trying to say that the ruling class’ definition of nationalism was the true definition of nationalism but his definition of nationalism was harmful and divisive.

The alliance said the major parties had censored their own Constituent Assembly members, which resulted in the constitution snatching the rights that the people had attained under the Interim Constitution.
