President calls to elect PM on political consensus

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday has called for the formation of a Council of Ministers on political consensus within seven days.

According to the office of the President, the Head of the State has invitedĀ  parties represented in the Legislature-Parliament to form a government in unison, as per the Article 298 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal which states thatĀ  'the Prime Minister shall be elected based on a political consensus no later than seven days after the commencement of the session of the Legislature-Parliament'.

The President has invited for the formation of the government following the resignation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on May 25. However, the President has asked the Council of Ministers to continue functioning until the next government is formed.
