Protests flare up in plains against six-province model
Rajbiraj/Rautahat, August 11
Madhesi Morcha Saptari Chapter today staged a huge rally demanding an autonomous Madhes province in Rajbiraj.
At a corner meet organised after the rally, Sadbhawana Party General Secretary Manish Kumar Suman said they had no choice but to hit the streets as the draft statute had bypassed the agenda of autonomous Madhes. Suman warned of giving continuity to their agitation until their demand was addressed.
At the programme, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal central member Sailendra Prasad Sah accused the four major parties of depriving the Madhesis of their rights. He vented ire at the four parties for splitting the Madhes plains.
Madhes-centred parties took out a rally protesting the agreement to federate the country into six provinces in Gaur, Rautahat. A protest rally taken out by Joint Madhesi Morcha passed through Gaur Municipality. Cadres and leaders of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Nepal Sadbhawana Party, Tarai Madhes Party and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal had demonstrated with sticks.
Addressing a corner meeting, many Madhes-based party leaders accused the four major parties of showing their true colours by federating the country into six provinces.
