Put off statute for consensus: Baidhya

Kathmandu, August 26

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala today held talks with the Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist requesting the party to understand the urgency of delivering the new constitution and to support the constitution drafting process that is in the final stage.

Baidhya, however, handed over a memorandum to Koirala urging him to postpone the constitution drafting process and find solution through consensus.

“People are agitating and violent activities are taking place. The government has mobilised the army. If the new constitution is delivered in such a situation, it will push the country towards a great disaster. So, the process should be stopped to find a broader consensus,” stated the memorandum, according to CPN-M leader Dev Prasad Gurung.
