Quake victims obstruct reconstruction

Earthquake victims of Panchkhal Municipality in Kavre have started obstructing the agreement on constructing houses.

They expressed rage and accused the authority of not keeping their names in the list of victims in the district.

As many as 700 victims of wards 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 started obstructing the reconstruction project after they did not see their names in the list of victims prepared by the National Reconstruction Authority.

Those aspiring to obtain the grant of Rs 200,000, obstructed the distribution of relief in the first phase, which was scheduled from Sunday onwards after reaching agreement with the victims.

Following the obstruction, an all party meeting was held today.

The victims have warned of continuous disruption until the government reconsiders who the victims are, said Nepali Congress Panchkhal representative Rajan Karki.

He demanded the inclusion of the names of victims who were excluded from the list.

Panchkhal folks also decided not to take five per cent concession on the revenue while passing the map for those who are eligible to obtain Rs 200,000 grant.

As many as 8,000 people had received relief of Rs 15,000 and as many as 7,800 people were provided with Rs 10,000 for warm clothes in the district after the devastating earthquake of last year.
