Mahato finds PM's call for talks insufficient but positive

KATHMANDU: The chairman of Sadbhawana Party, Rajendra Mahato, on Tuesday said the recent call for talks by the Prime Minister was a positive development but pointed out that it was not sufficient.

Speaking to reporters some hours after the all-party meeting, which the United Democratic Madhesi Front boycotted, today, leader Mahato said the UDMF was ready to sit for talks if the government responded to its 11-point demand.

According to him, the UDMF would formally make a decision to make appropriate response to the Prime Minister's call for talks.

Responding to the chairman of Federal Social Forum Nepal Upendra Yadav's objection to the letter that the Prime Minister sent to the UDMF yesterday, Mahato said, "The Prime Minister's letter does not divide and rule. Madhesi Front has its own existence."

Both the parties are constituents of the UDMF. Yadav, however, had taken an initiative to form the Federal Alliance bringing on board other fringe parties also to launch fresh Kathmandu-centric agitation.

Mahato said he was for amending the constitution, not rewriting the constitution or forming a new Constituent Assembly. Yadav, on the other hand, has been voicing for the rewriting of constitution.
