Rape accused ward member turns himself in to police

Damauli, June 19

A ward member in Tanahun’s Ghiring Rural Municipality accused of rape has finally surrendered to the police.

Shakti Thapa, member of Ward No 4, Ghiring Rural Municipality in Tanahun surrendered to the police at the District Police Office in connection with the allegation that he raped a 39-year-old disabled woman of his village one month ago.

Thapa was absconding ever since the accusation of rape against him. Police have said a rape case was filed from the victim’s side against him.

According to District Police Office Tanahun spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunil Malla, Thapa was produced at the court today to seek a date for investigation.

“After being allowed three days for investigation from the court, we are investigating the case now,” informed Deputy Superintendent of Police Malla.

Thapa had also been acting as the ward chairperson ever since ward chairperson Jhaka Bahadur Kumal went out of contact following a rape allegation against him at District Police Office, Tanahun. Police have also intensified their search for Kumal.
