The District Education Office, Rautahat has yet to release budget for free distribution of textbooks, although the government launched nationwide free textbook distribution campaign on Sunday.

Ganesh Yadav, head teacher at Gaur-based Bal Mandir Lower Secondary School, complained that teaching-learning activities had been affected in schools due to shortage of textbooks.

He said schools in the district had been facing the same problem every year due to gross negligence on the part of the DEO. The DEO was supposed to release the budget by February end.

Head teacher Satya Lal Raut of Parsa VDC-based Shree Lower Secondary School said that they were facing the problem also because of frequent transfers of district education officers.

However, District Education Officer Hari Osti, said they could not release the budget on time due to lack of students’ data. “The schools didn’t provide us students’ date despite our frequent requests,” he said.
