Rastriya Banijya Bank in Gaighat has run out of cash due to prolonged agitation in the Tarai. For want of cash, the bank has stopped releasing more than Rs 10,000 to customers.

‘We are not able to release more than Rs 10,000 for lack of cash as Rastra Bank in Janakpur has halted cash supply,” Bank Manager Bholakaji Karki said.

Karki added that it had been more than two months that the bankhas been facing cash crunch. Banks and financial institutions in the Tarai have not resumed their services owing to prolonged agitation. Umesh Shrestha, an employee at Rastriya Banijya Bank, Gaighat, said they had run out of cash as customers as far as from Siraha and Saptari were visiting the bank for cash.

“The bank has reserve to last for not more than a week while we are also preparing to bring in cash via helicopter.
