Resolve Madhes crisis thru talks: HLPCC

Kathmandu, January 31

Meeting of the High-Level Political Coordination Committee led by Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today decided to resolve the outstanding Madhes issues through dialogue.

The HLPCC also decided to urge the government to proceed with projects of national pride, including hydro-power projects, without any delay.

According to UCPN-M General Secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara, today’s meeting of HLPCC took five decisions.

He said the committee decided to address the remaining concerns of the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front through dialogue. It also decided that the coalition partners should strengthen their ties with nationalist forces.

The committee also decided that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming India visit should focus on strengthening ties between the two countries without hurting national interest.

Prime Minister Oli’s Press Coordinator Chetan Adhikary said the meeting lauded the government for trying to accomplishing certain important tasks despite adverse situation in the country.

Yesterday the HLPCC coordinator Dahal had consulted PM Oli and discussed the agendas of today’s meeting of the committee and had expressed serious concern about the ‘poor performance’ of the government as per the decision of party’s recent standing committee meeting.

Dahal told the leaders attending today’s meeting to take along the main opposition Nepali Congress in this hour of national crisis, as the NC had been with them since the promulgation of the new constitution.

The PM Oli, hinting at the activities of Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist and ‘separatist movement’, said the nationalist forces should be included in the coalition to fight the violent and separatist forces.

The HLPCC, however, failed to take any decision regarding the formation of the political committee to review the demarcation of the provinces. The HLPCC also decided to hold its meetings on a regular basis.

Recently, the standing committee meeting of the UCPN-M had decided to entrust Dahal and Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha to hold discussion with PM Oli regarding the government’s poor performance and discuss ways to improve its performance at the level of HLPCC.
