Firm on one-China policy, says Sher Bahadur Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has stated that Nepal and his party are firm on the 'one-China' policy.

Upon his return from a function in India to the country at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Deuba said, "Tibet is the integral part of China and I personally am firm on one-China policy."

The former Prime Minister, who had reached India to attend a programme of the India Foundation, meanwhile said he held high-level meetings with Indian leaders in New Delhi on the sidelines.

The NC President also expressed his displeasure at some of the Nepali media for 'disseminating false reports' regarding his statements at the Goa event.

He stressed that he had no such meeting with any person against the one-China policy.

Earlier, reports had claimed that China was miffed at by Deuba after he attended the programme where the exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama was also present.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, has denied the reports yesterday.

The official website of Tibetan Government in Exile also stated that Dalai Lama was not present in the function, but only had addressed the inaugural via video.

Meanwhile, Deuba briefed the media that his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was focused on consolidating the bilateral ties and on Nepal's ongoing post-earthquake rebuilding efforts. He said he found that Modi has a high goodwill towards Nepal.
