Six held for domestic violence

Nepalgunj, January 13

District Court Banke slapped six persons with five-day imprisonment along with a fine for domestic violence and defiance of court order today.

Puja Mishra had filed a case at Women and Children Office on May 22 and at District Police Office Banke on June 2 after frequent mistreatment by her family. Following the complaint, the family members signed a paper vowing not to repeat such mistreatment. However, Puja was repeatedly abused both physically and verbally.

District judge Bishnu Prasad Koirala gave the verdict against Anil Kumar Pathak, Puja’s husband, father-in-law Gokulananda, mother-in-law Ketaki, in-laws Kamalkanta, Gita and nephew Rohit.

As per the court’s order, the convicts have to provide Rs 25,000 compensation to the victim besides Rs 4,000 per month for her livelihood. They were also fined Rs 3,000 each.

Anil and Puja had tied the knot in 2012. As Puja was forced to leave the house because her in-laws accused her of bringing insufficient dowry, she was staying at her mother’s house at Belbhar-1 of the district. Puja had filed the complaint against her in-laws at the court demanding justice and reparations.
