Six injured in Sindhupalchowk landslide

KAVRE, June 30

Six persons were injured in a landslide at Yanglakot of Hagam VDC in Sindhupalchowk today morning.

The injured have been identified as Maya Tamang, Buddhisingh Tamang, Bhim Bahadur Tamang, Sandesh Tamang, Saili Tamang, and Santa Bahadur Tamang.

Among them, the condition of Maya, Buddhisingh, and Bhim Bahadur is said to be critical.

The victims have suffered broken limbs and head injuries. They were taken to Kathmandu for further treatment after first aid treatment at a local health facility.

According to DSP Bishwo Adhikari of district police office, the landslide had occurred at about 3:00am. “No human casualty was reported as the locals could make it to safer places in the nick of time. Three temporary huts were completely damaged while four other were buried under the rubble,” said DSP Adhikari.

Following the incident, teams of security personnel had reached the site and rescued the injured. They have also been involved in shifting locals from vulnerable settlements to safer places.

As per a study report by geologists, 10 VDCs, including Hagam, Baramchi, Gumba, Pangtang, and Golche, in the district are vulnerable to landslides.

Meanwhile, a landslide in Milche VDC of Dandapari area buried an excavator that was being for road construction in Kavre. Excavator driver Kedar Chaudhary was rescued unharmed, said local Hom Khulal.

Locals suspect the landslide was caused due to the use of heavy equipment that shook the ground. The buried excavator is yet to be salvaged.
