Six Killed, 40 injured in Gairathok bus accident

At least six persons were killed on the spot and as many as 40 injured when a commuter bus met with an accident at Manthali-7, Gairathok of Ramechhap this evening.

The bus heading for Gothgaun from Manthali fell some 30 metres down the road. The deceased have been identified as Dil Maya Magar, 30, of Manthali-7, Gairathok, Hem Bahadur Thapa of Gothgaun-4, Bhim Bahadur Budhathoki of Gothgaun-5 and Deep Jung Mahat of Bijulikot.

However, the identities of the two bodies have yet to be ascertained, according to the DPO, Ramechhap.

Ramechhap Police Chief DSP Mohan Pariyar said that a police team and the locals jointly carried out the rescue operation. The injured have been receiving treatment at Tamakoshi Sahakari Hospital and Ramechhap Community Hospital.

According to head constable Ram Bahadur KC, who had been deployed for the rescue, as many as 25 injured are in critical condition.

An eyewitness Shukra Bahadur Shrestha said that the overloaded bus plunged down the road abruptly.

Police have surmised that the bus might have met with the accident due to sorry condition of the road.

Meanwhile, at least seven persons sustained injuries when a bus met with an accident at Siddhicharan Municipality-7, Okhaldhunga on Friday afternoon. The bus was heading for Okhaldhunga from Kathmandu. The bus turned turtle at the edge of the road due to brake failure.

All the injured have been receiving treatment at Community Hospital at Sobru. Condition of all the injured is said to be normal. The driver has been taken under control and investigation is under way, said DSP Dipendra Shah.
