Six months on, girl’s kin refuse to receive body

CHITWAN: Family of a girl, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Kawasoti of Nawalaparasi about six months ago, has refused to accept the body. The body has been lying in a morgue of Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan for the past six months.

A resident of Sundarbasti at Ramnagar-2 in the district, Osim Gurung, 19, had died when she was at the house of Surya Bahadur Gurung at Thakali Chowk of Kawasoti-3 in the night. The family has been claiming that Osim had been murdered.

Organising a press meet in Bharatpur, Osim’s family claimed that Surya Bahadur’s family was involved in the killing. They accused the police officials of not carrying out investigation in a fair manner. The victim’s family complained that the delay in digging out the facts was giving an opportunity to the guilty to evade justice.

Osim’s grandfather Rudra Bahadur had filed an FIR against Surya Bahadur Gurung, Laxmi Gurung, Monika Gurung and Manoj Gurung. But the court released all of them, save Manoj on bail. Rudra said that Manoj was in the custody for investigation. Rudra said that the family would not accept Osim’s body unless people involved in the incident were punished. Manoj had called Osim, a student at Pokhara’s Nursing Campus, to his home to celebrate his sister Monika’s birthday. According to victim’s family, Manoj and Osim had an affair.

Rudra said that Manoj had told police that Osim had committed suicide. “We will not accept the body unless all the members of Manoj’s family are brought to justice,” Rudra added. He said that the family was deprived of justice.

At the programme, Nepal Nursing Association Chitwan Chairperson Maya Pandey said that incident was not suicide but murder and expressed sorrow over victim’s family for being denied justice.
