Six new municipalities recommended

Sindhulimadi, March 24

Urban Area Fixation Recommendation Committee Sindhuli has recommended names for six new municipalities to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development.

According to Nabin Giri, local development officer and coordinator of the committee, Sunkoshi, Sindhuligadi, Tinpatan, Marin, Madhuganga and Kamalakhoj have been recommended as the new municipalities in the district.

The has committee proposed to form Sunkoshi Municipality by merging Kusheshwor Dumja, Jhangajholi Ratamata, Purano Jhangajholi and Shitalpati VDCs.

The committee also proposed to form Sindhuligadi Municipality by merging Bhimeshwor, Baseshwor, Jalkanya and Ratanchura VDCs.

Similarly, merger of Belghari, Bhimsthan and Ranichuri VDCs has been proposed to form Tinthana Municipality. Also, the formation of Marin Municipality has been proposed by merging Kapilakot, Mahadevsthan and Kalpabrikshya VDCs; while formation of Kamalakhoj Municipality comprising Hatpate, Nipane and Ranibas VDCs as well as Madhuganga, Jinakhu, Sirthauli, Harshahi and Kakurthakur VDCs has been proposed.

The committee has proposed municipalities with wards. However, the centres of the municipalities have not been proposed yet according to Giri.

As the government has expedited the trend of declaring municipalities in the country without meeting necessary criteria, people of the new municipalities continue to remain deprived of basic facilities.

Currently, the district has only Kamalamai and Dudhauli municipalities.
