TAR to implement Nepal-China deals

Kathmandu, June 23

Tibet Autonomous Region of China yesterday expressed its commitment to implement all agreements and understandings reached between Nepal and China.

Chairman of government of TAR Qi Zhala expressed such commitment during a meeting with visiting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Lhasa.

Nepal and China on Thursday had signed 14 bilateral agreements, memoranda of understanding and letters of exchange, including the MoU on Cooperation in Railway Projects and Protocol to the Unitisation of Highways in Tibet by Nepal for Cargo Transport.

The pacts were signed following delegation-level talks between PM Oli and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During the meeting, Oli and Qi dwelt on various aspects of Nepal’s relations with TAR and China as a whole, according to Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa. Both sides agreed to expedite reconstruction of friendship bridges in Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi as per the bilateral agreements signed between the two countries.

“The two sides also agreed to cooperate for the development of high altitude agriculture farming, especially in northern districts of Nepal, collaborate on development of herbs and medicinal plants and hold meetings of bilateral mechanisms between Nepal and Tibet Autonomous Region in the areas of trade, tourism and customs regularly,” a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

At the same time, Oli invited Chinese investors to invest in hydropower, roads, railways, industrial park and Nepal-China Friendship Cultural Park, among others.

Qi TAR hosted a dinner in honour of Nepali PM Oli and his delegation.
