Nepali Congress-aligned Rolpa Municipality Tarun Dal Chairman Rohit Pun was shot dead in Rolpa today.

The assailant opened fire at Pun when he reached Sulichaur to inaugurate Pandeswori Transport Private Limited.

Dev Bahadur Ghartimagar, a local,  had fired a Pun. After shooting Pun, Dev had surrendered to the police.

Dev is considered close to Nepal Communist Party, police said and added that Dev was arrested with the weapon.

According to the police, Pun was gunned down at a restaurant in Sulichaur. An injured Pun breathed his last while being rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Both Pun and Ghartimagar had been jailed for their involvement in the Simalwang incident. They were released from prison under the general amnesty granted last year.
