Temblor damage data made public

District Statistics Office shows that more than 2,000 institutional structures were destroyed due to massive April 25 earthquake and its subsequent aftershocks in Kavre.

As many as 318 persons lost their lives and 70,000 houses were completely destroyed due to the devastating tremors in the district.

According to office Chief Dina Nath Lamsal, as many as 638 schools/early childhood development centres, 385 temples, 31 community structures, 129 drinking water and irrigation buildings, 109 monasteries, viharas and stupas were damaged.

Likewise, 102 private structures, 96 sub-health posts and health posts, 74 cooperative buildings, 73 government office buildings, 59 VDC buildings, 39 hydropower projects. among others, were damaged. Similarly, 18 resorts/hotels, 14 churches, 11 campuses and libraries, 11 buildings of agriculture groups, among others, had collapsed, said Lamsal.

The office has been preparing to keep a record of the total physical damage in the district. According to data, Kashikhanda Municipality was hit the worst in terms of infrastructural damage with the collapse of 173 institutional buildings.

Similarly, 113 institutional structures in Dhulikhel Municipality, 90 in Pachkhal Municipality, 77 in Jyagdi VDC, 63 in Bhimkhori VDC and three buildings were damaged in Devitar VDC. The office has already made public the statistics of the affected houses and families.
