Transport staffers caught red-handed taking bribe

Pokhara, June 30

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Regional Office, Pokhara, today arrested two staffers at Transportation Management Office, Gandaki with bribe money from the office in Pokhara.

Account officer Gobinda Prasad Baral and accountant Narayan Sharma of the Transportation Management Office were arrested red-handed with Rs 10,000 from the office.

DSP Shyam Kumar Rai said the duo was arrested on the basis of information provided by Tek Bahadur Baruwal, a service seeker.

Baruwal informed that they did not pay any heed to the bill book of his car though he had paid the annual tax of his vehicle. “I requested for the bill book of my car, but they did not heed, saying it was misplaced somewhere in the office,” he added. He said that initially they had asked for Rs 20,000 from Baruwal for the bill book, but later they had agreed to Rs 10,000.

The duo, however, claimed that it was a great conspiracy to tarnish their names.

The accused were taken to the CIAA office for further investigation.

Earlier, the anti-graft commission had also arrested officials of Land Revenue Office and staffers of Pokhara Sub-metropolitan for graft.
