UCPN-M Madhesi Front to begin struggle with 10-point demand

Demanding separate Pradeshes for Tharu and Madhesi people in Tarai and Madhes with their identity as per the spirit of the Interim Constitution, the Madhesi National Liberation Front (Revolutionary) today announced its struggle programme. With a 10-point demand, MNLF(R) has announced their struggle in consultation with the party leadership.

The sister wing of UCPN-M led by Ram Kumar Sharma, its general secretary Ram Rijhan Yadav, leaders Ram Chandra Jha, Biswonath Sah and CA member Mahendra Paswan had discussed with the party leadership about the struggle.

According to a press statement issued her today, their demands include withdrawal of army deployment; separate commissions at the centre and Pradeshes of Madhesi, Tharu, Janajati, Dalit and Muslim; arrangement of proportional representation of these communities in all state organs; restructuring of judiciary as per the federal system and empowerment of Pradeshes with rights of security and revenue collection.

General Secretary of MNLF(R) Ram Rijhan Yadav said their demands also include allocation of certain election constituencies for women and Dalits in the First Past the Post election system and formation of election constituencies on the basis of population.

Yadav said that during the MNLF(R) meeting in the parliamentary party office at Singha Durbar, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal directed Front leaders to inform people about the note of dissent registered by the party so that they could know about the party’s efforts.

The Front decided to organise gatherings on August 30 and 31 in all Madhes districts and torch rallies in rural areas and demonstrations at the party headquarters of Madhes on September 3.
