UDMF closes markets

Janakpurdham, February 4

Cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front today shut down educational institutions, markets, and transport service in Dhanusha until lawmakers Bimalendra Nidhi, Lila Koirala and Ram Krishna Yadav, among other Nepali Congress leaders leave the district.

Chairman Shesh Narayan Yadav of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Dhanusha, said that the bandh would continue as long as the Constituent Assembly members, who had signed on the constitution, remained in the district.

It is said the leaders have been meeting their parties’ cadres in their own residences though they did not come out of their houses. It has also been reported that police have been giving security to the houses of these leaders.

Meanwhile, the leaders said that they would not leave the district until they finished the party’s local level convention.

Central representative Parsuram Koirala of the NC, who was deployed for the district convention, could not come out of the hotel.

“We, 153 representatives, were deployed to holding the municipal and regional level convention,” he said, adding, “But only 19 representatives have submitted the reports,”

It is said security was tightened in the areas where demonstrators had protested after burning tyres in the chowks of the district.
