UDMF to protest Constitution Day

Rautahat, September 18

Federal Alliance and United Democratic Madhesi Front, Rautahat, have decided to protest the Constitution Day tomorrow by observing a black-out.

To inform about its decision, UDMF today issued a statement.

According to UDMF coordinator and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal district Chairperson Ram Niwas Yadav, the black-out is meant to be a protest against the charter brought without addressing the rights and concerns of the Madhesis, indigenous nationalities, Muslims and the minorities.

‘The constitution, as was decreed at the cost of the blood of scores of Madhesis by showing disregard to the concerns of Madhesis and the indigenous and minority communities, can’t be accepted at any cost,’ read the statement.

The statement also called on the locals to boycott programmes held to celebrate constitution promulgation tomorrow. As per the decision of the parties, a black flag rally will be staged from Madhesi Kranti Chowk at 2:00pm tomorrow.

Similarly, the black-out is scheduled for half-an-hour from 7:30pm. A candlelight memorial for people who died during the months-long Madhes agitation is scheduled for Tuesday, from 7:30 to 8pm in Gaur and other main bazaars of the district.

Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a circular to implement the decision to celebrate Constitution Day with fanfare.
