UDMF vandalises Bimalendra Nidhi's house in Janakpur

JANAKPURDHAM: Cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Monday vandalised the house of Nepali Congress central leader Bimalendra Nidhi and torched two motorcycles.

The fire also destroyed Nidhi's parking zone roofed with zinc sheets. Other infrastructures and belongings were saved as police doused the fire after someĀ  minutes.

Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal's Dhanusha district chairman Shesh Narayan Yadav said the cadres resorted to vandalism as the Front had decided to block lawmakers who had signed on the Constitution from entering the district.

Nidhi's sister-in-law Kiran sustained several minor injuries in the attack.

"They entered into the compound when there were no any security personnel here," Kiran told reporters, "I have been hurled with numerous stones and survived several injuries."

The protesters had also hurled stones at houses of two other NC lawmakers Ananda Prasad Dhungana and Ram Krishna Yadav.

The agitating cadres staged a baton rally in the city today chanting slogans against the NC. Following the rally, all the market areas were shut.

Meanwhile, the cadres also engaged in clashes with police as the latter tried to disperse them from the protests.

SP Ram Datta Joshi claimed the cadres had also attacked them with petrol bombs. He said 14 police were injured in the clash. "One of our personnel is critical," he said, "We have used three shells of tear gas to control the situation."
