UML district leader’s main murder convict arrested

DHADING: Five years after the incident, police have arrested the prime convict in the murder of CPN-UML Dhading district leader Shiva Thapa Magar.

After being arrested by Criminal Investigation Bureau from Kathmandu on Saturday and handed over to Dhading District Police Office the next day, Tek Bahadur Tamang, aka Bikram, of Dhading, Darkha, has been sent to prison as per the court’s earlier verdict.

Five years ago, Tamang had slit Magar’s throat when the latter was in Dhading to celebrate Dashain.

Tamang was then a member of the CPN-Maoist sister wing Young Communist League.

Regarding Tamang’s implication in the murder, the CPN-M had tried to defend him saying that Maoist cadres were not involved in the murder.

Following the murder, police had filed a case against Tamang on the basis of intelligence gathered from its investigation and the arrest of his aides.

District court Dhading, two years ago, had convicted Tamang in absentia and slapped him 15 years’ jail term. Police had intensified the hunt for him upon learning that he was launching different criminal activities from his hideouts in the Capital.
