The United Democratic Madhesi Front today staged a rally demanding the restructuring of local bodies on the basis of population in Birgunj.

UDMF said that it had staged the demonstration demanding that the report submitted by the Local Bodies’ Restructuring Commission to the prime minister be scrapped as it was not based on population.

The rally led by UDMF Parsa Coordinator Purushottam Jha had taken a round of Birgunj before it converged into a corner meeting at Ghantaghar Chowk in Birgunj.

Speaking at the corner meet, UDMF leaders said that the LBRC’s report was anti-Madhesi and demanded that it be scrapped.

Jha charged that the commission had submitted the report to the prime minister at the behest of a few big parties despite the wide-ranging protest from different parties. He warned that the Madhesi populace would disrupt the civic polls unless the local bodies were restructured on the basis of population.
