Vaccination drive against measles, rubella to be launched

Lamjung/Khotang, February 4

Lamjung District Public Health Office, Lamjung has been preparing to vaccinate more than 15,000 children of the district against measles and rubella.

The district public health office is launching the campaign to prevent these communicable diseases in five municipalities and 35 VDCs of the district.

The office urged locals to make the vaccination campaign a grand success through a press meet organised in Besisahar on Tuesday.

Senior Public Health Officer Satish Bista said all preparations have been made to launch the nine-day drive on February 7 from different vaccination centres and health organisations in the first phase, while the same campaign will be launched on February 19 and run up till February 27 in its second phase in Lamjung.

He further informed that 15,604 children between the age group of nine months to five years would be vaccinated during the campaign in the district.

He said the children up to five years would also be administered polio drops during the drive. Bista added that as many as 17,995 children below five years would be administered polio drops.

It is said that as many as 562 vaccination centres were allocated where 11 doctors, 20 district supervisors, 122 vaccination health workers and 1,124 volunteers would be deployed to run the campaign in the district.

Similarly, District Hospital Khotang will also begin the vaccination drive for a month from February 21 to March 22 against measles and rubella.
