All the VDC secretaries, who had halted work for the past couple of days, returned to their jobs after their colleague was released from police detention in Rautahat, today.

The secretaries said security personnel had detained Samanpur VDC accountant Kameshwor Sahani on a false charge on August 2.

VDC Secretary Rights’ Conservation Centre had initiated a pen-down since last Tuesday. A meeting of VDC Secretaries Rights Conservation Centre, the local administration and other stakeholders, on Thursday had decided to release Sahani on normal bail amount, according to Chief District Officer Nara Hari Baral.

In a meeting held on August 2 to declare Samanpur VDC an open defecation free zone, there had been a row between VDC officials and the local women. Following the incident, local Ramsakhi Devi Sah had sustained minor injuries Sahani was accused of being actively involved in the clash.
