Woman held for 3-year-old nephew's murder in Saptari

RAJBIRAJ: A woman has been arrested on charge of murdering her three-year-old nephew in an apparent vengeful act in Pato VDC of Saptari district.

The suspect, Urmila Devi Mandal, allegedly choked the minor to death in their house three days ago.

After taking the life of Ram Avatar, son of her brother-in-law Dharmadev Mandal Khanga, the woman covered the body with a sari and concealed it in a plastic sack before dumping it in the backyard, according SP Dibesh Lohani at the District Police Office.

It has been learned that Urmila had a quarrel with the victim's mother, Chandrika Devi, few days ago.

Urmila had reportedly threatened to "murder" during the verbal spat.

Urmila apparently targeted the boy on Sunday when other members of the family went outside. Her husband and the victim's father, who are brothers, are said to be gone to Mumbai one week ago.

When the victim's mother returned home at around 2 pm, she did not find the boy. Upon searching, she ended up discovering the innocent child dumped in the backyard.

Police arrested the murder suspect on Sunday evening. She was presented before the District Court and  remanded in custody for investigation, SP Lohani said.
