A Dalit woman was raped in Bishrampur VDC of Rautahat district last night.

A group of five youths raped the woman in the field after they gagged and tied the hands of her husband and son.

District Police Office, Rautahat said the 45-year-old woman was raped in the paddy field near her house at midnight.

The victim’s husband had immediately informed the police after the rapists dragged his wife to the field. But they fled the scene after they saw the police approaching them.

According to the police,one of them had raped the woman while others fled after seeing the police approaching them. Health checkup of the victim was conducted in Chandranigahapur Hospital.

Dr Madhu Kumari Sah of the hospital confirmed the woman had been raped. The victim has been sent to Garuda-based Woman and Children Service Center.

Meanwhile, DSP Rajendra Pokhrel of the District Police Office said police had arrested a Dalit youth on suspicion of his involvement in the case. Pokhrel said a team has been deployed to search for the absconding.
