Workshop held to save endangered Magahi language

MAHENDRANAGAR, DHANUSHA: The National Language Commission has launched a campaign to save the Magahi language that is slowly disappearing.

The Commission held a one-day workshop at Dhalkewar of Mithila Municipality in Dhanusha district to determine the class of Magahi language and to collect its words.

During the workshop — presided over by Nepal Backward Class (OBC) Federation Chairman Bharat Prasad Mahato — the words of Magahi language were identified. The words were collected following a discussion with Magahi language experts spread across 22 districts of the Madhes region.

At the programme, linguist Prof Dr Madhav Prasad Pokharel and Commission's Secretary Ram Sharan Sapkota said the words were collected after consultations with the linguists, and the activity was aimed at determining the category of Magahi language.
