Nepal hammer UAE by 149 runs in ACC Under-19 Premier League opener

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated the United Arab Emirates by 149 runs in the opening match of the ACC U-19 Premier at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur today.

Batting first after winning the toss, Nepal were bowled out for 199 in 49.2 overs. In reply, the UAE were packed for a paltry 50 runs in 20.5 overs.

Nepal had a poor start when they lost opener Sunil Dhamala (one) with just three runs on the board.

Rijal top-scored with 62 off 84 balls that included six fours and a six, while Khanal scored 24 off 30 balls hitting three fours. No 11 Dipesh Shrestha remained unbeaten on 12 off 11 balls.

Zafri Zafaradeen was the pick of the UAE bowlers taking 3-42, while Ahsan Ali Khan and Abdullah Asif claimed two wickets each. Yodhin Punja, Atharva Kavi and Kulith Rabel pocketed one wicket apiece for the UAE.

In reply, the UAE made a flying start scoring 34 runs inside eight overs before they collapsed. The UAE lost all the 10 wickets for 16 runs with their last nine wickets falling for just six runs in 10 overs.

Opener and skipper Waruna Perera top scored for the team with 32 off 38 balls hitting three fours and a six, while Zafardeen (12) was the only other batsman to score in double figures. Six of the UAE batsmen failed to open their accounts, while three others were out for one run each.

Sushil Kandel was the chief destroyer as he returned with the magical figures of 4-7 from seven overs, while Sunil Dhamala claimed 3-12 and Prem Tamang took two wickets in his five-ball spell conceding two runs. Kandel was named the man-of-the-match.

Afghanistan, Malaysia win

In other matches of the day, Afghanistan beat Kuwait by eight wickets and Malaysia thrashed Saudi Arabia by 181 runs.

Afghanistan bowled out Kuwait for 104 runs in 49.3 overs and raced to 105-2 in 15.4 overs.

Hosts Malaysia scored 286-5 in 50 overs and packed Saudi Arabia for 105 runs in 32 overs.
