Athma Ram Simkhada won the sixth edition of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stroke play full handicap format over 18 holes, Simkhada scored two-under 70 nett to lift trophy. Kishan Agrawal was second on count back after he was tied on even-par 72 with Lt Col Dipankar Rajaram, who finished third.

Jigmay Dongstetsang claimed the gross section trophy with the score of seven-over 79. Dongstetsang, who scored one-under 71 nett, opted for gross section award rather than nett section runner-up under one-player-one-prize rule. Likewise, Devasri Rana won junior category title with score of two-over 74 nett.

In all, 43 players participated in the sixth edition of the tournament, sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Executive Member of Gokarna Golf Club Bhairaja Pandey handed over the prizes to the winners.

Dongstetsang maintained his lead in the nett section with 460 points ahead of Dhruba Thapa (340). Lt Gen (retd) KNS Thapa (240) and Phintso Ongdi Lama (210) are third and fourth respectively, while the day’s winner Simkhada shares fifth position with Dr Bhagwan Koirala on 200 points.

In gross section, Vijay Shrestha Einhaus is at top with 115 points ahead of Dongstetsang (110). Tendi Sherpa (70) is third, followed by SSP Rajendra Shrestha (65) and Prithivi Malla (50). Likewise, the junior section winner of the sixth edition Rana moved atop in the standing with a total of 210 points, while Tenzin Yoden Lama is a distant second with 110. Shreeyog Basnyat is third with 70, whereas Arnav Shah and Mayank Dahal share the fourth position with 60 points.

A total of 10 medal rounds will be held until December and top 40 in nett and 10 each in gross and junior sections will advance to the finals, which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
