Dangol declared winner

Kathmandu, April 30

Organisers Max Boxing Promotion and Dancing Yak declared Manish Dangol as the winner of the Champ of the Champions, a professional boxing tournament, today.

Dangol was scheduled to face Saroj Sewa in the final on April 7 but the latter went to South Korea for employment on the eve of final match, informed Max Boxing Promotion's Chief Executive Officer Manohar Bansent. “As match was not possible on scheduled date, we declared Dangol as the winner of the event,” said Basnet.

Basnet, Dancing Yak's CEO Sujit Pun and Nepal Professional Boxing Commission's Treasurer Lal Bahadur Maharjan handed over the belt and Rs 200,000 to Dangol. The organisers had also announced that the winner of the event would get chance to take part in the WBC championship in Belgium. “We are working on visa process to send Dangol to take part in the championship,” said Basnet.

Meanwhile, champion Dangol said it would have been better if the final match had taken place. “I am not happy with the way I won the title. it would have been a different feeling if I had get the chance to play and beat the opponent in the final,” said Dangol.

The first-ever professional boxing event of the country featured 16 players from different parts of the country.
