Fighters clinch MPL title

Kathmandu, April 14

Fighters defeated TipTop-XI by eight runs in the final of the TipTop Marwadi Premier League here at the TU Stadium today.

Put into bat first, Fighters scored 174-7 in their allotted 20 overs before restricting TipTop to 166-3.

Fighters posted the mammoth total riding on man-of-the-match Ankit Garg’s 53-ball 69 that included a four and four sixes, while Bibek Rana Magar contributed 18-ball 27 with the help of a four and two sixes. Rahul Bansal smashed a boundary and three sixes in his 16-ball 26, while Krishna Kedia scored a quick fire eight-ball 22 with the help of two fours and a six.

TipTop’s Punit Badhusaria and Ashu Kandoi claimed two wickets each, while Anubhav Ranasaria, Amol Sharma and Sumit Sharma took one wicket apiece.

In reply, half centuries from Amol Sharma and Ashu Kandoi were not enough for TipTop, who fell nine run short from the target. Sharma scored 53 off 45 balls hitting eight boundaries, while Kandoi remained unbeaten on 42-ball 52 with the help of five boundaries.

Punit Budhasaria scored 14-ball 29 not out hitting a four and two sixes. Fighters’ Rohit Sharma, Rahul Bansal and Ankit Garg claimed one wicket each.

Fighters received Rs 151,000 along with the trophy, while runners-up TipTip earned Rs 81,000. Fighters’ Ankit Garg was named the man-of-the-series and he got a scooter from Terra Motors as well as gift hampers.

Hamro Kitchen Panthers’ Shubham Agarwal was declared the best bowler and his teammate Shubham Agarwal was the highest six hitter. TipTop’s Sumit Sharma was named the best bowler, while DAV’s Shikhar Bothra was adjudged the emerging player. The individual award winners got gift hampers. DAV won the fair play award.

A total of 10 teams took part in the tournament organised by Nepal Marwadi Brahman Sewa Sangh under the sponsorship of TipTop.
