Nepal defeat China, register first win in Women's World Cup Asia Qualifier

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated China by 20 runs in the ICC Women's World Cup Asia Qualifier 2016 at the Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong on Tuesday. It was Nepal's first victory after two consecutive defeats in the four-team double-league contest.

Batting first, the Nepali eves posted a target of 96 runs with top scorer Nary Thapa making 38. Nirmala Kumari Shahi contributed 14 and Jyoti Pandey 10.

Though Yingying Li took five Nepali wickets for meagre 12 runs, Nepal defended the target restricting China to 75 for eight.

Sita Rana Magar claimed three Chinese wickets for 16, while Sabnam Rai sent two for 10.

In another match played today, Thailand beat Hong Kong by 17 runs.

Nepal had lost their first two matches against Hong Kong and China.

The top side of the contest will qualify for the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier 2017.
