KATHMANDU, MARCH 7

The first meeting of the reinstated House of Representatives will take place today following the Supreme Court's February 24 order to call the House meeting within 13 days.

The HoR meeting is scheduled for 4:00 pm today.

Acting on the Supreme Court's directive, on March 1, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had summoned the first meeting of the parliament for March 7, pursuant to Article 93(1) of the Constitution on the recommendation of the government.

The five-member Constitutional Bench of SC led by Chief justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana had given out the verdict to reinstate the Lower House of federal parliament, terming Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's move to dissolve the House unconstitutional.

The government has indicated that the HoR session will only focus on political issues, while passing of crucial bills pending in the House including the Citizenship Bill, Civil Servants Adjustment Bill will not be its priority.

The HoR session is also likely to witness the filing of a no-trust motion against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, led by the Dahal-Nepal faction of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

In a bid to make the HoR session safe against Covid-19, lawmakers, parliament secretariat staffers, and mediapersons covering the Parliament stories have already received their first jab of the vaccine.
